Kickers’ commitment to music remains as strong today as it has always been, as they prepare to take part in the 2008 festival season, asking the Great British public to show them their ‘Fancy Footwork’. The iconic brand will set up camp at festivals, joining in the summer fun with the Kickers Fancy Footwork trailer, a mobile disco where festival goers can come, show their best moves and win top notch prizes. Kickers is on the road for the entire summer, hot-footing it round to T4 on the Beach, Get Loaded in the Park and Bestival.

On top of this, Kickers is also buddying with the Notting Hill Carnival institution that is Sancho Panza at the raucous event this August bank holiday.Kickers has teamed up with American-based Funk masters Chromeo, using their underground dance floor hit Fancy Footwork, from the album of the same title, as the track for participants to dance to. Inside the workshop their dance is then filmed and through the magic of green screen technology, their head is placed smack bang at the top of their legs. As well as being broadcast onto the outside of the Fancy Footwork trailer for the enjoyment of other revellers, each persons’ Fancy Footwork film is sent straight to their email inbox to share their new found fame with friends via MySpace or Facebook.Chromeo’s Fancy Footwork track will also be remixed by one of the hottest bands around, CSS, alongside a second remix by the legendary Sancho Panza.

Kickers is producing 2000 MP3 files of these remixes available to the general public as free downloads.Kickers has also created another contribution to the festival season with two new styles of Wellington boots, an essential part of any British festival survival kit. These rubber boots have already become a bestseller for Kickers and form playful part of a great new collection from Kickers that includes plimsolls, pumps, heels, high tops, boots and the classic Kick-Hi boot. Originally conceived to be worn with jeans, Kickers shoes quickly became the wardrobe staple for an entire generation. The Kickers brand continues to innovate today with a diverse range of new footwear models and collaborations with fresh design and music talents. But it was the late 80s and early 90s that it really exploded in popularity when it was heralded by icons of the ‘Madchester’ music scene: Ian Brown notoriously kicked off the trend by wearing a pair to the Hacienda as a cheeky retort to the ‘no trainer’ policy. The Stone Roses wore them in their video for ‘Fools Gold’ and not forgetting the sheep that sported two pairs on the cover of the ‘Stepping Stone’ 12” single by The Farm. The Kickers Kick- Hi boot subsequently became the staple fashion component of the rave scene, first with acid house and then later with trance music.

The red Kick Hi in particular became the ultimate accessory teamed with baggy jeans or trackies and a hoody. It’s not all about retro styling though; new fans of the look come from diverse and contemporary musical backgrounds including UK garage, urban, RnB, pop and hip-hop. Appropriated by So Solid Crew in the early 2000s, they have since been spotted on Ms Dynamite, Jarvis Cocker, the Gallaghers and more recently Mike Skinner, The Arctic Monkeys and The Kaiser Chiefs.
